Do we like Gina Carano?

Our score: 2 out of 10. A run of her own posts mocking vaccines and masks, pushing election-fraud claims and sharing contested Holocaust imagery, with little documented good to set against it.

Gina Carano was born in 1982 and came up through Muay Thai, then moved to MMA in 2006. She won her first seven pro fights before losing a 2009 title bout to Cris Cyborg, and is often credited with helping put women's MMA on the map. Then she went into acting: Haywire, Fast & Furious 6, Deadpool.

Her big break was playing Cara Dune in The Mandalorian from 2019. Then came the posts. In September 2020 she added “beep/bop/boop” to her bio, which some read as mocking trans people's pronouns. She later took it down.

The pile kept growing: posts mocking mask-wearing, vaccine jokes, and election-fraud suggestions, for which no evidence of widespread fraud has been found. In February 2021 she shared an Instagram Story comparing the treatment of conservatives to Jews in the Holocaust. Lucasfilm fired her and called the posts “abhorrent and unacceptable.”

The Holocaust post wasn't the only one that drew fire. Hey Alma also reported that she shared an altered mural in December 2020 that the outlet called antisemitic. Carano told Bari Weiss she was “in utter shock and confusion” when people called her post antisemitic. Ben Shapiro defended her, while others accused him and Weiss of double standards.

She sued Disney and Lucasfilm in February 2024 for wrongful termination and sex discrimination. The suit was funded by Elon Musk and X, and she thanked him for a “Good Samaritan deed.” It settled in August 2025 on undisclosed terms. Lucasfilm said she had always been well respected by directors, co-stars and staff, which is a point in her favour on the people test.

The good stuff is thin in what we could verify: a real sporting career, a comeback at 44 in a Netflix-streamed bout against Rousey, and a record of holding her line at serious cost to her career. We found no charity work or kindness record. That is why good-person is a mixed result: not villainous, just not documented.
