Do we like Garry Gary Beers?
Our score: 6 out of 10. Nothing harmful found and a warm, proud public face, but too little verified reporting to score him higher.
Garry Gary Beers is the bass player in INXS, the band that started on Sydney's Northern Beaches and went on to fill stadiums worldwide. He is one of the surviving members of the band, and he still talks about the group's roots with real affection.
Nothing new on him lately beyond the big one: in March 2026 INXS were named on the ballot for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, 21 years after they first became eligible. Beers reflected publicly on it, saying how proud he was of the Aussie blokes who started it all.
He also pops up as a talker about the craft. In a March 2026 podcast he got into the groove and bass playing that defined the INXS sound, which is the sort of thing fans love to hear from the player who anchored it.
On the harm check, we searched his name against LGBTQ+ issues, women, climate, vaccines, migrants and politics, and nothing turned up. No campaigning, no conspiracy rabbit holes and no questionable collaborators showed up in the coverage we could read. That is a clean result, but a quiet one, so we won't pretend it's a deep audit.
The good-person side is where we have to be honest about gaps. Older coverage mentions a few personal disputes, but we couldn't open any of that reporting to check what is established and what isn't, so we have left the details out rather than guess. That is why it's an asterisk, not a clean pass.
So where does that leave us? He is a proud, plain-speaking Aussie musician with a band that has meant a lot to a lot of people, and nothing in what we could read says we shouldn't back him. Call it a lean yes, with the file open for more.
