Do we like Ethan Torchio?
Our score: 6 out of 10. No harmful words or acts found, and the band's record on LGBTQ+ allyship is good, but there's little of his own on the record to go on.
Ethan Torchio is the drummer of Måneskin, the Roman rock band that won Eurovision in 2021 and went global. The other three went to school together in Rome and found him through Facebook. He was 21 when Dazed caught up with the band in late 2021.
The band's rock-and-roll attitude is his own pitch. He told Dazed it's “not just a kind of music, it's also an attitude”. That's about the longest thing we could find from him on the record, because he's the quiet one in interviews.
The harm check comes up clean. We found no words from him against LGBTQ+ people, women, migrants or the climate, and no dodgy collaborations. The band as a whole has a good record: David and Raggi kissed on stage in Poland in protest at anti-LGBTQ+ policies, and the band rejected queerbaiting claims.
One thing to know about, so it doesn't ambush you. In 2022 his name surfaced at the trial of a footballer accused of group sexual assault, because a chat belonging to the complainant mentioned him. Il Fatto Quotidiano reported he wasn't under investigation in any way, and no statement from him appeared. Some Italian gossip headlines make it sound worse than the reporting does.
The band has been on a pause since early 2024 while members did solo work, and ANSA says it has never formally split. That's the live story: Fiorello's claim that a Sanremo reunion is coming in 2027. Treat it as a rumour until the band says so.
On the good-stuff side we couldn't verify any charity or kind acts of his own. That's a gap in the record, not a black mark. He's a working musician who keeps his head down, and the band's public allyship counts for something.
