Do we like Emma Caulfield Ford?
Our score: 7 out of 10. A decent record with no harmful words or company found, held back because she says very little publicly about causes.
Emma Caulfield, now credited as Emma Caulfield Ford, is the actress who turned a two-episode guest spot as the ex-demon Anya on Buffy the Vampire Slayer into a seven-season fan favourite. She worked in TV through the 1990s, including Beverly Hills, 90210, before Buffy made her a cult name. She told an interviewer in 2023 that she never imagined the show would last the way it has.
Her time on Buffy wasn't all sunshine. In a 2006 interview she said she felt unappreciated by certain people by the end and that going to work stopped being fun, though she never named names. The article noted that Whedon blamed Fox executives for her issues.
The big Buffy-world stoush came in February 2021, when Charisma Carpenter publicly accused Joss Whedon of abusing his power. Whedon had not commented on the new allegations at the time. Caulfield Ford didn't tell her own story, but she reposted Sarah Michelle Gellar's statement backing survivors with the caption “In the wise words of my friend”, which reads as standing with Carpenter.
On the harm test, we came up empty in a good way. Nothing we could find shows her campaigning against LGBTQ+ or trans people, women, migrants or the planet, and no conspiracy-theory slide. She says very little on public issues, so this is a pass built on a quiet record rather than a loud one. Her recent work has been Marvel's WandaVision and Agatha All Along plus a Buffy audio drama, and none of it is with the culture-war crowd.
Her most recent big project was Slayers: A Buffyverse Story, the 2023 Audible audio drama written and directed by Amber Benson. It has nothing to do with Whedon. Caulfield Ford said she signed on because of Benson, telling her she wouldn't do it for anybody else, and that once the cast got into it, it was fun all the time.
We found no court cases, lawsuits or accusations against her. Searches for 2026 news turned up only gossip-site rumours, which flagged themselves as unfounded, so we've left them out. Nothing new on her lately.
