Do we like Dwayne Johnson?
Our score: 8 out of 10. No harmful words or acts turned up, plus real generosity, held back only by a dodgy-looking set row and his decision to say nothing on politics.
Dwayne Johnson is about as mainstream as a famous person gets. In August he was formally inducted as a Disney Legend at D23 in Anaheim, with his Jungle Cruise and Smashing Machine co-star Emily Blunt presenting the award. He ditched his prepared remarks, told a story about taking his eldest daughter to Disneyland, and led the crowd in singing her happy birthday.
On politics, he's a fence-sitter by choice. He backed Joe Biden in 2020, then told Fox News in 2024 he wouldn't endorse anyone again because the first endorsement brought division. He said he'd support whoever won. In June 2026 he told Esquire he'd keep his politics to himself, and some people think that's a cop-out. Others read it as a bloke trying not to add to the shouting.
Now the harm check, done properly. We found no campaigning against LGBTQ+ or trans people, no anti-vax or climate-denial material and no election-denial claims from him. In 2022 he said that people had warned him early on that playing a gay character would hurt his career, and he told them where to go. He also condemned the 2024 attempt on Donald Trump's life, saying “There's no room for that.” That is a statement about violence, and we don't read it as an endorsement. His recent films are Disney, A24 and Amazon projects with the likes of Blunt.
The messier story is the Red One set. The Wrap reported allegations that his lateness pushed the budget up and that he turned up hours late. In a GQ interview he admitted to some of it, including peeing in a bottle, called the reported extent “bananas” and dismissed the broader claims. That's a gossip-level question about his habits, not a harm question. We couldn't find anyone alleging he mistreated cast or crew.
The good stuff is real. In 2023, during the Hollywood strike, he made a confidential seven-figure donation to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation's relief fund. The foundation's executive director called it the largest single donation it had ever received from one individual at one time. That is the sort of thing you do when you want to help other people, not just look good.
So, would we support him? Yes. His record is clean on the things this page cares about and his gestures are generous. He isn't speaking up much on the issues we care about, and that is the main reason it isn't a ten.
