Do we like Dominic Simper?

Our score: 5 out of 10. Nothing harmful found, but there's very little public record on his views or deeds, so this is a cautious middle score.

Dominic Simper is the quiet one in the Tame Impala live band. He met founder Kevin Parker at high school, and they've stayed close mates ever since. Broadsheet's 2012 profile has him on guitar in the early days and mostly on synthesiser on stage.

He's not the band's songwriter, and he's upfront about it. In that profile he describes the recordings as Parker's work, with the others focused on playing the songs live. It's a modest read on his own role.

On fame, he told Broadsheet “It's not something we really strive for.” Back then he was living at his parents' place in Fremantle between tours, because the road had drained his bank account. Hardly rockstar excess.

On the harm test, we searched his name against LGBTQ+ and trans issues, climate and politics, and found nothing from him either way. No harmful quotes, no campaigning, no dodgy collaborators showed up. That's an absence of evidence, not a ringing endorsement, and we can't say what he believes on any of it.

On the good-person test, searches for lawsuits, convictions and allegations came back with nothing about him. We also found no documented charity work of his own. Some of his bandmates have done fundraiser gigs, but that's their story, not his.

Nothing recent turned up on him either. He's listed in the touring line-up for Tame Impala's current Deadbeat tour, per search results, but we couldn't open a full report to confirm it. He also records solo as Bambi, though we couldn't read a dated report on that.
