Do we like Dingdong Dantes?

Our score: 8 out of 10. Clean record, a public push for SOGIE equality and real relief work, but the evidence on trans issues is thin.

Dingdong Dantes is one of the Philippines' biggest leading men, a GMA Network staple who came up as a teen heartthrob and grew into a serious drama actor and host. The highlight on paper is the 2020 Asian Star Prize at the Seoul International Drama Awards, for playing Capt. Lucas Manalo in the Philippine take on Descendants of the Sun. His speech dedicated it to frontliners, soldiers, healthcare workers and volunteers, which tells you where his head goes when the trophy arrives.

His scandals are small and mostly about other people's mistakes. In October 2025 he apologised on Facebook after a greeting to the Tausug community on Family Feud used the wrong phrasing, and said the team would research harder. In February 2026 a social media post put a remark about Vice President Sara Duterte in his mouth. He shared a screenshot, wrote that he did not say it, accepted the poster's apology and later urged people to be more discerning online.

On the harm check, nothing nasty turned up. In 2018 he tweeted that the owners of a Makati bar reportedly turning away LGBT patrons needed educating on the importance of the SOGIE equality bill. He also warned the public in 2026 about AI-faked videos and ads that use celebrity faces. I found no record of harmful words, conspiracy talk or dodgy company, but I also found little from him specifically on trans rights, so call it a clean pass rather than a gold star.

He has also used his platform on corruption. He fronted GMA Public Affairs' documentary on unfinished and ghost flood-control projects, visiting communities hurt by them in Bulacan, Pampanga, Northern Samar and Maguindanao. He said that learning you are being robbed strips away your dignity as a Filipino. That's a risk for a mainstream star, though it's a cause with broad support rather than a lonely stand.

Nothing messy lately. Early August 2026 coverage had the Family Feud Philippines and The Master Cutter teams throwing him early birthday surprises on set, which reads like a bloke his crew actually likes. Add the relief work, including more than 700 relief packs given to the GMA Kapuso Foundation after Typhoon Carina in 2024, and you get a decent, low-drama bloke.
