Do we like Cyprien Iov?

Our score: 7 out of 10. Nothing harmful in his own words turned up, but there's one clumsy joke he apologised for, a civil ruling, and not a lot of documented good.

Cyprien is one of France's original YouTube stars. By late 2014 he had over six million subscribers, and an early viral hit was a rant about the first iPhone. He grew up with Romanian roots, which fed a lot of his early comedy.

The one real stumble on the harm front came in 2014. In a video about his Romanian origins he made a joke linking Roma people to trouble, and a reader of mademoiZelle wrote an open letter calling it a stereotype. When the site contacted him, he said “Je regrette d'avoir dit ça.” and called it clumsy. He didn't delete the video, but said he'd address it in his next one.

The harm check otherwise comes up clean, but honestly the search was thin. Nothing turned up on him and LGBTQ+ people, women, vaccines or the climate, and nothing on who he keeps working with that raised a flag. In 2018, when a YouTuber scandal blew up over creators allegedly preying on young fans, he refused to name names but said not to lump every YouTuber together.

The scandal that stuck was a civil one. In 2016 he tweeted a jab at the cover of the magazine Lov' my people, and its founder sued, initially seeking 1.15 million euros. In January 2022 the Paris Court of Appeal found him and his company liable for disparagement and ordered 18,000 euros in damages and costs. The court said the violence of the wording went beyond humour.

Nothing new we could confirm lately. In 2024 he said he'd file a complaint over deepfakes using his image in scam ads and warned his fans not to fall for them. In 2025 he publicly regretted a cheap tablet carrying his Cyprien Gaming logo, saying it embodied bad choices made for money. That's a creator owning a mistake, not hiding it.

On the good side, he was among roughly 50 web stars in the 30-hour Téléthon livestream in December 2018. The organisers reported 43,133 euros raised. That's the only documented charity work we found, so don't expect a long list.
