Do we like Versace?
Italian luxury fashion house (clothing, accessories, fragrance, home), based in Milan; founded 1978 by Gianni Versace.
Our score: 4 out of 10. A famous brand with new, well-resourced owners and no fur. The Italian subcontractor labour probe stops us from calling it a clear yes.
Versace is the Milan fashion house founded by Gianni Versace. Prada Group completed its purchase from Capri Holdings on 2 December 2025 for about €1.25bn (about $1.4bn). It was the largest deal in Prada's history.
Prada heir Lorenzo Bertelli became Versace's executive chairman. Modaes reports that CEO Emmanuel Gintzburger, who ran the brand from 2022, is stepping down. We haven't seen a successor named.
The main drama is labour. Italian reports say Milan prosecutors asked Versace, Gucci, Prada and others for information about alleged abuses at subcontractors. Reports describe very long hours and low pay. The brands weren't formally under investigation.
On the plus side, Donatella Versace said in 2018 that the brand would stop using real fur. PETA welcomed the move. With the labour questions still open, we land slightly below the middle.
