Do we like Vans?
Skate-style shoes and clothing brand, founded in California in 1966 and now owned by VF Corporation (Denver, US).
Our score: 5 out of 10. Iconic brand with no big scandal in what we found, but it's struggling and we found little on its ethics. We'd hold off on backing it for now.
Vans is the classic skate shoe brand. VF Corporation bought it in 2004, after Vans' shareholders challenged the sale and the parties settled by cutting the termination fee from $10.9m to $8m.
These days Vans is VF's problem child. VF's latest quarter (reported July 2026) showed Vans sales down 8%, which dragged on The North Face and Timberland gains. The stock fell about 17% on doubts about Vans' recovery.
In January 2026, VF CEO Bracken Darrell said the company would be patient with Vans. Vans sales fell 10% in the prior quarter, and VF cited $40m of tariff costs.
On the legal side, shareholders filed a class action in September 2025. They accuse VF and some officers of misleading statements about the Vans turnaround. These are allegations only. Vans and VF also settled a trademark case against Walmart over alleged knockoffs.
