Do we like UPS?
Global parcel delivery and logistics company, based in Atlanta, Georgia, USA
Our score: 5 out of 10. A huge, unionised employer that is shrinking fast. The job cuts and the Teamsters disputes balance its steady service, so we're lukewarm.
UPS is the American parcel giant, run by CEO Carol Tomé. In January 2026 it said it would cut up to 30,000 operational jobs this year. The main reason is that it's winding down low-margin Amazon deliveries.
UPS says the cuts will come through attrition and another buyout offer for drivers, not layoffs, according to CFO Brian Dykes. Some outlets still call them layoffs. UPS also plans to close about 24 more facilities.
The Teamsters sued over $150,000 driver severance packages. UPS later settled, and the deal caps severance offers at 7,500 drivers nationally.
There are smaller pay disputes too. In May 2026 a New York federal judge gave initial approval to a settlement of about $87,000 over pay deductions for Teamsters Local 804 members. An earlier class action over paycheck deductions ended in a $1.3 million judgment against UPS.
