Do we like Tiffany & Co.?
Luxury jeweller and watch seller, founded in New York in 1837, with its HQ in New York City.
Our score: 5 out of 10. A famous brand with no big recent scandal in what we found, but our searches turned up little on its labour, tax or sourcing record. We can't give it a clear thumbs-up.
Tiffany is the famous blue-box jeweller. LVMH closed its $15.8 billion takeover in January 2021, after months of public disputes and threats of lawsuits, according to FashionUnited's report of the completed deal.
When the deal closed, LVMH made Anthony Ledru CEO, replacing Alessandro Bogliolo. Michael Burke of Louis Vuitton became chairman. Alexandre Arnault took charge of product and communications. Our search found nothing newer on who runs it now.
Tiffany spent years in court with Costco over rings sold under the Tiffany name. CNBC reported that the two settled in 2021, after an appeals court threw out a $21 million judgment. The terms weren't disclosed.
We found no recent fine or regulatory penalty against Tiffany. Our searches also turned up little about how it treats workers, what tax it pays or where its diamonds come from, so we're giving it a middling score.
