Do we like Stellantis?
Multinational carmaker (Jeep, Ram, Fiat, Peugeot, Chrysler and more), headquartered in Amsterdam, formed 2021 from FCA and PSA.
Our score: 4 out of 10. Mixed-to-poor: a history of diesel emissions cheating penalties and a big 2025 writedown. It's now trying to recover, but we wouldn't rush to back it.
Stellantis was created when Fiat Chrysler (FCA) and France's PSA merged. It owns a huge stable of brands, including Jeep, Ram, Peugeot and Fiat. Antonio Filosa is the current CEO.
The big stain is diesel. FCA US, now part of Stellantis, pleaded guilty to criminal conspiracy over diesel emissions on 2014–2016 Jeep and Ram vehicles. It agreed to a $96.1 million fine and to forfeit $203.6 million, plus three years of probation.
There's more. California's regulator CARB levied about $4.2 million in penalties over Ram ProMaster vans carrying defeat devices. Stellantis also paid $5.6 million in 2022 to settle similar allegations about petrol vehicles.
Lately it's a turnaround story. Filosa blamed a roughly €20 billion 2025 charge on overestimating how fast the energy transition would come. Q1 2026 was back in profit. He also told Italy's parliament the Termoli battery gigafactory was effectively shelved.
