Do we like Spin Master?
Toy and entertainment maker (PAW Patrol, Hatchimals, Aqua Dots) based in Toronto, Canada.
Our score: 5 out of 10. A mainstream toy firm. We found no recent scandals, but its Aqua Dots history and a thin picture of its current conduct mean we'd only back it with caution.
Spin Master is a Toronto toy company founded by Anton Rabie and Ronnen Harary, with Ben Varadi as a third founder. It's behind PAW Patrol toys and Hatchimals, and is listed on the Toronto stock exchange. Rabie reportedly holds most of the voting power.
The big black mark is Aqua Dots. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission said Spin Master knowingly failed to report the hazard straight away. After kids who swallowed the beads got sick, the company recalled 4.2 million units and paid a $1.3 million civil penalty in 2011.
In 2015 a US jury ordered Spin Master and Moose to pay $435,000 to the family of a poisoned child. The companies blamed a Chinese manufacturer. Separately, in 2017 parents filed a class action over Hatchimals that wouldn't hatch.
Leadership changed in 2025. Board member Christina Miller took over as CEO from Max Rangel on July 7. We found nothing recent on tax, workers or the environment, so we land in the middle.
