Do we like Sonos?
Wi-Fi speakers, soundbars and headphones with a controller app, based in Santa Barbara, California.
Our score: 6 out of 10. A good product maker that badly botched its 2024 app. It is now recovering, with nothing in what we found that is seriously harmful. We'd back it with some caution.
Sonos makes multi-room Wi-Fi speakers and soundbars, and it's listed on Nasdaq. In May 2024 it launched a redesigned app that was widely criticised for bugs and for dropping features such as alarms and sleep timers.
The fallout was big. Revenue fell 16% in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2024, and CEO Patrick Spence stepped down in January 2025. Board member Tom Conrad, a Pandora co-creator, took over as interim CEO. Sonos said it wouldn't go back to the old app. It kept shipping fixes instead.
Then there's the long legal fight with Google. An ITC judge found Google infringed five Sonos patents, and a jury awarded $32.5m. A judge later threw out that verdict, and the Federal Circuit sided with Google on the trade case in 2024. Judge Alsup criticised how patents were being used.
Things look better now. Sonos's own SEC filings show revenue up 8% in one quarter and 9% in the next in fiscal 2026. It had GAAP net income of $30m in the third quarter. It also launched new products in 2026. So we'd back it, but not with full confidence.
