Do we like Rocket Lab?

Builds and launches small rockets (Electron) and spacecraft; Long Beach, California, with NZ roots and a launch site there.

Our score: 6 out of 10. A real, working space business with a strong launch record. Neutron keeps slipping and it's making a huge $8B buy, so we'd back it with caution.

Rocket Lab began in New Zealand and now has its headquarters in Long Beach, California. It's a listed company led by founder Sir Peter Beck, who is still CEO. It makes the small Electron rocket and also builds satellites and spacecraft.

Electron is the success story. Rocket Lab's own news page lists its 98th Electron mission on 23 October 2026, and it keeps landing contracts, including a Space Force deal reported at $266 million for suborbital launches, per the Globe and Mail.

The big rocket, Neutron, is the headache. On 14 October Rocket Lab said inspections found voids in a first-stage tank dome, pushing the first launch into 2027. Beck said the problem is solved. A shareholder suit over earlier Neutron timing claims was thrown out by a US federal judge.

It's also betting big on growth. In June it agreed to buy satellite firm Iridium for about $8 billion in cash and stock, expected to close in mid-2027, per CNBC and Fierce Network. We'd call it solid but stretched: a good operator, with a risky Neutron programme and a lot of promises to keep.
