Do we like Roblox?

Online platform where users, mostly kids and teens, play and make games; based in San Mateo, California

Our score: 3 out of 10. Huge platform with a real creator economy, but we'd stay away for now. It faces a wave of state and county child-safety suits, and its big safety fixes only came after the pressure.

Roblox is a platform where people build and play games, and a huge share of its players are kids. It's run by co-founder David Baszucki. It's listed on the stock exchange, and Matt Kaufman is its Chief Safety Officer.

The big drama is child safety. Attorneys general in Louisiana, Texas, Tennessee, Florida, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Arkansas have sued, as has Los Angeles County. They accuse it of putting profit over safety and misleading parents. Roblox says its protections are rigorous and disputes the claims.

The cases aren't going away. A Los Angeles judge refused to throw out the county's suit in September 2026. More than 100 families have also brought claims, combined into one California lawsuit, alleging Roblox failed to protect their children from grooming and assault.

To its credit, Roblox has made changes. It brought in facial age checks for chat in January 2026. It also settled with West Virginia for about $11m, agreeing to mandatory age verification and tighter limits on adult-to-child chat. Baszucki later blamed the checks for a slowdown in growth.

On the plus side, creators earned over $1.5bn on the platform in 2025. But most developers earn very little, and Roblox is now steering payouts towards adult players. We think the safety record outweighs the good, so we score it low.
