Do we like Revlon?
Cosmetics, hair and beauty products maker based in New York, USA.
Our score: 5 out of 10. Mixed. We found a famous brand that has been through a rough restructuring, but our searches turned up little on how it treats people or the planet. We'd hold off.
Revlon is one of the best-known names in make-up, run for years by the Perelman family's MacAndrew & Forbes. Debra Perelman stepped down as CEO in 2023 after five years, and Elizabeth Smith took over as interim CEO.
In 2022 Revlon filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. It came out in May 2023 as a private company. Its former lenders took the majority of the new equity, and existing shareholders, including the Perelman family's MacAndrew & Forbes, were largely wiped out. The restructuring cut more than $2.7 billion in debt.
Along the way came a banking mess. Citigroup mistakenly paid about $900 million on a Revlon loan. Ten lenders refused to return roughly $500 million, and the dispute ran for more than two years before Citigroup reached agreements with all ten.
We found nothing in our searches on pay, the environment, privacy or tax, so the middling score reflects what we couldn't confirm as well as what we could. Leadership has changed again, and a later report says Michelle Peluso is CEO.
