Do we like Peugeot?
French car brand making petrol, diesel and electric cars and vans; based in Poissy/Paris area, France.
Our score: 5 out of 10. A long-established carmaker with an electric push, but a French diesel-emissions case and recalls leave us lukewarm. We'd hold off on backing it.
Peugeot is one of the oldest car names in the world and now sits inside Stellantis, the giant formed from the merger of PSA and Fiat Chrysler. The Peugeot family still has a stake through its investment arm. Day to day, the brand is run by Alain Favey.
Favey took over in February 2025 from Linda Jackson, who retired after about 20 years at Peugeot. Before Peugeot he ran Europcar Mobility Group.
The big blot is diesel. In 2021 a Paris court put Automobiles Peugeot under formal investigation over alleged consumer fraud on Euro 5 diesels sold from 2009 to 2015. Stellantis said its systems met the rules at the time.
Safety stuff too: a Marketscreener report says Stellantis is recalling up to 700,000 cars worldwide over a fire risk. We're giving it a middle score, with no clear sign of big recent good deeds to tip it up.
