Do we like Okta?
Cloud identity and login security software (single sign-on, MFA) sold to businesses; based in San Francisco, US.
Our score: 5 out of 10. A useful security product from a firm that has been breached more than once and settled with investors over how it handled one. We'd back it with caution.
Okta sells the software that lets staff at other companies log in safely. That makes its own security a big deal. Todd McKinnon leads it as CEO and chair, and in 2026 he has been pushing into security for AI agents.
The big drama is a 2022 security incident. Shareholders sued in May 2022 and accused Okta of misleading statements and leaving things out. Law360 reported a $60 million deal with investors in the case.
Benzinga also reports an October 2023 breach of Okta's customer support system. It says Okta told customers on October 19, 2023. That's a second incident for a company whose job is security.
A US court cut back some of the investor claims in April 2023, because the claims about what executives knew weren't specific enough. Our searches found no regulator fines. We score it a middle-of-the-road 5.
