Do we like Mecca?
Beauty retailer and brand house selling makeup, skincare and fragrance through stores and online. Based in Australia.
Our score: 6 out of 10. Mixed but leaning fine. It reported its own staff underpayment and fixed it, but there's also a reported ASIC fine. We found too little to say more.
Mecca is a big Australian beauty chain. Our searches were thin on its history and who runs it, so we won't guess. What came back was mostly about how it treats staff pay.
Mecca ran a pay audit covering July 2016 to July 2022. It found some shifts broke state rules or minimum shift lengths. Letters went to about 1,600 past and present staff, and the headline figure was $560,000 owed.
The good part is how it handled that. Austpayroll reported that Mecca raised the problem with the Fair Work Ombudsman itself, apologised through its chief people officer and changed its payroll systems. That's better than being caught out.
A March 2026 report on pulse.bot says Mecca was fined $600k for late financial reports, split across three entities. That's a secondary source, so treat it with care. On balance we give it a middling-good 6.
