Do we like Mack Trucks?
Makes heavy-duty trucks and engines for highway and construction work. Based in Greensboro, North Carolina, US.
Our score: 6 out of 10. A solid, long-running truck maker with a decent record on its workers, but we found little on its environmental or tax record. A lukewarm yes, not a favourite.
Mack builds heavy trucks and is part of the Volvo Group. It is based in Greensboro, North Carolina, alongside Volvo Trucks North America. It's a long-established name in American trucking, and the pages we got back only cover its recent history.
Labour relations have had some rough patches. UAW workers struck for 12 days in 2019. In October 2023 workers voted down a tentative deal by 73% and walked out. Mack said the strike was unnecessary, while the union said workers wanted dignity, fair pay and job protections.
The strike ended and members ratified a new four-year agreement. That counts for Mack: the dispute was settled by negotiation, and the workers kept their union contract.
In 2026 Mack launched a redesigned Granite and an all-new Keystone vocational truck at ConExpo. The Granite will come with a Corning glass windshield as standard. Mack's North America president said he doesn't expect a rebound in Class 8 demand before the fourth quarter of 2026.
