Do we like Lamborghini?
Italian maker of luxury V12, V8 and hybrid supercars and SUVs, based in Sant'Agata Bolognese, Italy.
Our score: 5 out of 10. A well-run luxury carmaker with no big recent scandals that we found. It builds thirsty supercars, and we'd call it a mixed bet rather than a company to back for good.
Lamborghini is the Italian supercar brand from Sant'Agata Bolognese. Stephan Winkelmann has run it as chairman and CEO since December 2020. He also ran it for over eleven years until 2016, and spent time as Bugatti president in between.
The big story is electric cars. In 2023 it showed the Lanzador concept as a fully electric fourth model. Then it changed course: Winkelmann has said plug-in hybrids are the right answer, and the first fully electric model is postponed indefinitely. He pointed to customer demand for V12 and V8 engines.
On the legal side, Lamborghini sued a Chicago dealer, Gold Coast Exotic Imports, over an alleged scheme selling cars to resellers. The dealer denies it. In 2015, Italian police searched Lamborghini and VW offices in the emissions-test probe, and six Italy-based group executives were placed under investigation.
Our score is a middle one. Nothing recent points to a scandal, but supercars are a luxury product with large emissions, and the electrification pledge has been scaled back. We wouldn't avoid it, but we wouldn't call it a company that does good.
