Do we like Kaspersky?

Antivirus and cybersecurity software maker, founded in Russia, with its holding company in the UK and operations worldwide.

Our score: 3 out of 10. We wouldn't back them. The US banned the software over alleged Russian links, and the company denies wrongdoing. Doubts about trust matter most for security software.

Kaspersky is a big antivirus and security firm that Eugene Kaspersky co-founded. He has been CEO since 2007. It has more than 5,500 staff worldwide and sells to both businesses and consumers.

The big drama came in June 2024. The US Commerce Department barred Kaspersky's US arm from selling its products and services, citing alleged Russian government links. The company denied wrongdoing, but it said it would wind down its US operations.

The US also put Kaspersky on its Entity List. The Treasury's OFAC sanctioned 12 Kaspersky executives. Resellers who break the ban face Commerce fines.

Business carries on elsewhere. Kaspersky reported $836m revenue for 2025, with a new office in Vietnam. A June 2026 Brazilian article says its antivirus faces espionage suspicion there. We only saw the headline, so we can't confirm any details.
