Do we like illycaffè (Illy)?
Premium Italian coffee roaster and café brand, based in Trieste, Italy, selling in over 140 countries.
Our score: 8 out of 10. We'd back them. They are a family-run coffee maker with a strong B Corp record and real regenerative-farming work. We found no big scandals in our searches.
Illy is a Trieste coffee company that is still family-controlled. In 2022 Cristina Scocchia became CEO, replacing Massimiliano Pogliani. She came from the cosmetics firm Kiko. The board picked her ahead of a planned stock listing.
Bloomberg reported that Scocchia has strong backing from the Illy family and from the other shareholder, US private equity firm Rhone Capital. A July 2024 report put the business at around 160 cafés across 30 markets. In a December 2025 interview, she said Illy would start US production in 2026.
The good bit is the green side. Illy was the first Italian coffee company to earn B Corp certification, in April 2021. It was re-certified later with a score of 90.4, up about 10 points.
It also launched a coffee described as the first made entirely from Regenagri-certified regenerative agriculture, from Brazil's Cerrado. Illy says it pays growers premium prices and trains them. Much of this comes from press releases and trade media, so we hold it a bit loosely. Overall we'd back them.
