Do we like IBM?
Enterprise software, hybrid cloud, AI and consulting company, based in Armonk, New York, USA.
Our score: 6 out of 10. A mostly steady, enterprise-focused firm with real emissions progress. Repeated age-bias lawsuits that ended in settlements hold the score back.
IBM is one of the oldest names in tech. Today it sells software, cloud, AI and consulting to big businesses. Arvind Krishna has been CEO since 2020. SiliconANGLE reported 9% quarterly revenue growth in early 2026, the fastest in three years.
The big stain is age bias. Reporting says IBM settled the 'dinobabies' case in 2022, shortly after internal emails disparaging older staff were unsealed. It also settled with eight ex-workers in 2023 and, per court records, a 63-year-old's suit in 2026. IBM says there was and is no systemic age discrimination.
On the greener side, IBM's 2023 impact report says it cut operational greenhouse gas emissions 68.5% against 2010, beating its 2025 goal of 65% two years early. That's the company's own report, so treat it with some care.
We'd back it a bit. It's a stable company with a decent track record on the environment and AI governance. The repeated age-bias settlements are a real worry about how it treats older workers, so we land at a 6.
