Do we like HubSpot?
Cloud CRM, marketing, sales and service software for businesses; based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA.
Our score: 6 out of 10. A well-regarded software firm with a decent climate record and no big scandals in what we found. Our searches turned up little on the downsides, so we'd back them with some caution.
HubSpot sells cloud software that helps businesses run marketing, sales and customer service. It's listed on the stock exchange. Co-founder Brian Halligan stepped back as CEO in 2021 and became executive chairman. Chief Customer Officer Yamini Rangan, who had joined from Dropbox, took over as CEO.
On the workplace side, HubSpot says it was Glassdoor's #2 Best Place to Work in 2022, based on employee feedback. That's the company's own announcement and the data is from a few years back, so treat it as a hint rather than proof.
On climate, HubSpot says it is carbon neutral, having offset emissions back to its 2006 founding. It also says it's aiming for net zero by 2040 and has published annual sustainability reports since 2021. Those are the company's own claims, and carbon offsets have their critics.
On privacy and security, HubSpot's own SEC filings say a security incident affected it in 2022. They give no detail in what we saw. Our search found no regulator fines or big court cases against them. That's reassuring, though the search wasn't exhaustive. That's why we land at a cautious 6.
