Do we like HP Inc.?
Makes PCs, laptops, printers and ink; based in Palo Alto, California.
Our score: 4 out of 10. Mixed at best. We'd be wary of backing a firm that keeps getting sued over blocking third-party ink, and it is cutting up to 6,000 jobs.
HP Inc. is the PC and printer business that remained after the original Hewlett-Packard split in two. Enrique Lores is the CEO. Most people know it for laptops and for printers sold cheap with pricey ink.
The big sore point is Dynamic Security, the firmware that blocks third-party ink cartridges. One report says HP paid $1.5 million in a 2019 US class action and denied doing anything wrong. A European consumer group claim ended in a $1.35 million settlement.
The ink fight kept going. An Illinois class action filed in 2023 was reported as settled with no payout to customers and no admission of wrongdoing. Users can opt out of the updates going forward.
In late November 2025 HP announced it would cut 4,000 to 6,000 jobs as part of an AI-led plan, aiming to save $1 billion a year by fiscal 2028. Lores said the cuts would hit product development, operations and customer support. We rate it a 4.
