Do we like GoPro?
Makes action cameras, 360 cameras and related accessories and subscriptions. Based in San Mateo, California.
Our score: 4 out of 10. A well-known brand with good products. But it's shrinking, cutting staff and reviewing its future, so we'd hold off backing it.
GoPro is the action-camera brand that Nick Woodman built. It has been a household name for years. Lately the story is more about shrinking than growing, and it is under pressure from rivals.
In April 2026 a regulatory filing showed GoPro would lay off about 145 people, 23% of its 631 staff. The board also announced a review of strategic alternatives. That is a rough year for the people who work there.
The cuts follow earlier rounds. In 2024 it cut 4% and then 15% of its staff. In 2016 it cut about 15% and was hit by a securities class action. That case ended in a $6.75 million settlement approved in 2019.
On the good side, the products are still liked. The MISSION 1 PRO ILS made TIME's Best Inventions of 2026 list, and the CEO has talked up a new GP3 chip. Still, with the company's future up in the air, we'd wait.
