Do we like GoDaddy?
Domain registration, web hosting and website-building services for small businesses; based in Tempe, Arizona, US.
Our score: 4 out of 10. Big, useful, but it has a poor security record that drew an FTC order, plus court losses. We'd be cautious about backing it.
GoDaddy is the big name in domain names and cheap web hosting for small businesses. Aman Bhutani has been CEO since September 2019. It's listed on the stock exchange, and 2026 filings still show him running it.
The big drama is security. The FTC said GoDaddy misled customers about its security and failed to fix basic weaknesses, tied to breaches between 2019 and 2022. It finalized an order in May 2025. GoDaddy has to run a proper security program and have it independently assessed. There was no fine.
There's more legal trouble. A Delaware jury ordered GoDaddy to pay $170 million for infringing Express Mobile's website-building patents, and Bloomberg Law reported a further $83 million in interest. Separately, a $35 million settlement of an unwanted-texts class action was thrown out by the Eleventh Circuit.
Our score is a cautious 4. It's a useful service for small businesses, but repeated security failings that a regulator called out make it hard to say we'd put our money behind it.
