Do we like Glossier?
Beauty and skincare brand selling makeup and skincare online, at Sephora and in its own stores; based in New York.
Our score: 5 out of 10. Mixed. It's a well-loved brand with a record of layoffs and a past row over how it treated staff. We'd wait and see before backing it.
Emily Weiss founded Glossier in 2014 and ran it as CEO until May 2022. She then became executive chairwoman. Kyle Leahy took over as CEO, and the brand moved beyond online-only selling, launching in Sephora in February 2023.
Leahy said in June 2025 that she would step down by the end of the year. Colin Walsh, who used to work at Ouai, P&G Specialty Beauty and DevaCurl, was named as the new CEO.
The staffing record is rocky. In January 2022 Glossier cut more than 80 corporate staff, about a third of that workforce. Weiss said the company had "got ahead of ourselves on hiring". In 2020 it laid off all its US and London store staff.
In 2020, anonymous former workers publicly accused the company of racism and mistreatment in its stores, and Weiss and Glossier apologised. In February 2026 Puck reported another round of layoffs as part of a brand reset.
