Do we like Globe Telecom?
Philippine mobile and broadband operator (Globe Postpaid, GCash stake via Mynt), based in Taguig, Metro Manila.
Our score: 5 out of 10. A big, mainstream telco with mixed service complaints and some privacy history. We'd hold it with no strong feelings, neither a standout nor one to avoid.
Globe is one of the Philippines' main phone and internet companies. It sits under the Ayala conglomerate, with Singapore's Singtel as a big partner. Its shareholding page and press coverage describe that setup.
Leadership has changed lately. Ernest Cu ran the company from 2009 until 2025, then Carl Cruz took over. In April 2026 Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala stepped down as chair and Ayala Corp's Cezar Consing took the role.
The latest drama is with the regulator. In late 2026 the NTC went after Globe, Smart and DITO over poor mobile internet in Metro Manila, with fines of P100,000 a day. Globe pushed back, and an industry group asked for due process.
On privacy, the National Privacy Commission looked into a Globe data breach that may have exposed 8,851 subscribers' details. That's a mark against it, though the date wasn't clear. Overall we'd rate it a middling 5.
