Do we like Foot Locker?
Athletic footwear and apparel retailer with stores worldwide; owned by Dick's Sporting Goods, US-based (New York).
Our score: 5 out of 10. A big, familiar sneaker chain with an old wage-pay record and an uncertain future under Dick's. Nothing here makes us want to back it with our money.
Foot Locker is the mall sneaker shop most of us know. In 2022 Mary Dillon became CEO, and she led the chain until Dick's Sporting Goods bought it.
Dick's agreed to buy Foot Locker for about $2.4 billion in May 2025. Shareholders could take $24 in cash or Dick's shares for each share. The deal closed on 8 September 2025, after the US antitrust waiting period ended.
After closing, Dick's said it would run Foot Locker as a standalone business and keep its brands. Ann Freeman, a longtime ex-Nike executive, was named president of Foot Locker North America.
On the drama side, Foot Locker has a history of wage cases. A $7.1 million settlement of a class action claimed managers encouraged unpaid off-the-clock work, and a separate assistant-manager suit settled for about $600,000. These are old cases, so we mark it down only a little.
