Do we like Fiat?
Italian car brand (500, Panda, Pegaso) now part of Stellantis; based in Turin, Italy.
Our score: 5 out of 10. Well-loved small-car brand, but its parent has a criminal emissions record in the US. We'd hold back and watch.
Fiat is the Turin carmaker behind the 500 and Panda. These days it's one brand inside Stellantis, the group formed from Fiat Chrysler and Peugeot's parent. Reports say Fiat is the lead brand for Stellantis's European development.
At the top, Antonio Filosa became Stellantis CEO on 23 June 2025. He joined Fiat in 1999 and led the Fiat brand in South America. John Elkann stayed on as chairman.
The big blot is emissions. FCA US pleaded guilty to criminal conspiracy over diesel emissions cheating on Jeep Grand Cherokee and Ram 1500 EcoDiesels. A Detroit federal judge sentenced it to a $96.1m fine and $203.6m forfeiture, plus three years' probation.
On the brighter side, Filosa said the company would keep every Italian plant, and reports put Italian spending at about €7bn in 2026. Our score is middling: good products and jobs, but a patchy record.
