Do we like Dunkin' (Dunkin' Donuts)?
Coffee and doughnut chain, mostly franchised, run by Inspire Brands from Atlanta, US
Our score: 4 out of 10. Well-liked coffee and doughnuts, but a steady run of franchisee wage and scheduling cases keeps us from backing it.
Dunkin' is a huge coffee and doughnut chain, almost all of it run by franchisees. Since December 2020 it has belonged to Inspire Brands, which is owned by the private equity firm Roark Capital.
The recent trouble is mostly at franchise level. In September 2026 Massachusetts' Attorney General cited a franchise operator, Northern Management Group, and two staffing agencies for nearly $1.5 million over wage and labor violations. The citations covered misclassifying workers as contractors and late pay.
In New York City, a Taco Bell and Dunkin' franchisee agreed to pay over $1.5 million to settle claims about breaking the fast-food scheduling law. The city is also suing another Dunkin' franchisee over alleged violations affecting about 1,000 Staten Island workers.
Back in 2020, Dunkin' Brands settled with the New York Attorney General over attacks on customer accounts and paid a $650,000 penalty. We'd say the pattern of worker-pay problems matters more, so we land below the middle.
