Do we like Ducati?
Makes premium sport and road motorcycles (Panigale, Monster, Multistrada) in Bologna, Italy.
Our score: 6 out of 10. A well-loved bike maker with a modest record: some safety recalls, no fines found. Its future is uncertain while VW reviews a sale. We'd back it cautiously.
Ducati is a famous Italian motorbike maker from Bologna. Claudio Domenicali joined in 1991 and has been CEO since 2013, after Audi bought the company in 2012 for a reported €860 million. Audi is part of Volkswagen Group.
The big news is that Volkswagen is weighing up a sale. In September 2026 Audi CEO Gernot Döllner told Bloomberg that Ducati is among the businesses under review, and that no decision has been made. One report put its value at about €1.25B.
On safety, Ducati has had its share of recalls. In 2023 it recalled 2,906 XDiavel bikes over passenger backrests that could break. In 2021 a US NHTSA probe into brakes was closed after Ducati recalled the bikes. The results showed no fines.
We give it a 6. The record is clean of big scandals, but our searches found little on how it treats workers, the environment or tax. The sale uncertainty also adds risk.
