Do we like Dodge?
American muscle car and SUV brand (Charger, Durango), part of Stellantis; based in Auburn Hills, Michigan.
Our score: 3 out of 10. We wouldn't back them. They sell thirsty, high-polluting performance cars, and the parent company has paid large emissions and fuel-economy penalties.
Dodge is a muscle-car brand that now sits inside Stellantis, the group formed from Fiat Chrysler and PSA. Most of the trouble we found was at group level, not Dodge alone.
On fuel economy, NHTSA disclosures showed Stellantis paying about $190.7 million in civil penalties for 2019 and 2020. Earlier, it paid $235.5 million as its share of a record $363 million with GM.
The Durango R/T 392 and SRT Hellcat won't be sold in states that follow California's rules. Dodge says it is trying to change that. That tells us a lot about how thirsty these cars are.
On the customer side, Stellantis agreed to settle a class action over sliding door locks on 2017 Dodge Grand Caravans, with a warranty extension. That's a small plus, but not enough to lift the score.
