Do we like CrowdStrike?
Cloud cybersecurity company (Falcon endpoint protection platform), based in Austin, Texas.
Our score: 6 out of 10. Strong security product, but the July 2024 outage showed how much damage one bad update can do. We'd back them, with some caution.
CrowdStrike makes Falcon, a cloud security platform that protects company computers from hackers. George Kurtz is the co-founder and CEO, and the company is a leader in its field.
In July 2024 a defect in a single content update for Windows hosts caused a worldwide outage, according to Kurtz. He later apologised in person at Black Hat in Las Vegas.
Delta says the outage cost it $550m, with $50m of fuel savings offsetting it. In May 2025 a Georgia judge let most of its suit go ahead, including gross negligence and computer trespass claims. CrowdStrike argues its liability is capped, and its lawyer expects the remaining claims to be limited to single-digit millions.
So the product is well regarded, but the outage was a serious failure and the legal fallout isn't over. That puts us at a middling-to-good score.
