Do we like Cathay Pacific?
Hong Kong-based international airline carrying passengers and cargo, part of the Cathay Group.
Our score: 5 out of 10. Mixed. We found one big privacy fine and little else in this search, so we can't give it a strong yes or no.
Cathay Pacific is Hong Kong's flagship airline. Swire Pacific is its biggest shareholder, and Air China is the second-largest, according to a 2022 Air Freight News report on the CEO appointment.
The big drama we found is a data breach. In March 2020 the UK Information Commissioner's Office fined Cathay £500,000 over a 2018 breach that exposed data on 9.4 million customers, including passport details.
The fine was capped because the breach happened before GDPR took effect. Cathay said it regretted the incident and had spent substantial amounts on IT security. That, plus how little else we found, puts it in the middle.
