Do we like ASML?
Makes the advanced lithography machines chipmakers use to print chips, including the only EUV machines; based in Veldhoven, Netherlands.
Our score: 6 out of 10. A vital, well-run supplier with a net-zero goal. Mixed by the China export-control questions and job cuts during record profit. We'd back it with caution.
ASML is the Dutch company that builds the machines chipmakers use to print chips. It is the only maker of EUV machines, which is why the US and Dutch governments watch it closely. Christophe Fouquet has been CEO since April 2024, taking over from Peter Wennink.
In June 2026 Bloomberg reported that US officials believed an advanced ASML machine may have reached China. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick reportedly raised concerns with ASML. ASML denied it, saying it has never shipped an EUV machine to China. We found no reports of a fine or penalty.
In January 2026 ASML announced a record 2025 profit and plans to cut about 1,700 jobs, mostly management and leadership roles in the Netherlands and the US. Cutting jobs in a boom year went down badly with unions, according to Taiwanese tech outlet TechNews.
On the plus side, Eindhoven's council approved a second ASML campus, meant to house 20,000 new employees. Verdict reports a net-zero-by-2040 target and over 80 energy-saving projects, though its figures are dated. We give ASML a decent but cautious 6.
