Do we like Absolut?
Swedish vodka brand made in Åhus, Sweden, run by The Absolut Company, part of Pernod Ricard.
Our score: 5 out of 10. A well-known brand with no big fines in what we found. The Russia exports row and the thin evidence on its environmental and worker record leave us at mixed.
Absolut is Sweden's best-known vodka, still made in Åhus. The Swedish state sold it to French drinks giant Pernod Ricard in 2008 for about €5.63 billion, according to the search summary of Swedish and drinks-trade reports.
The big drama came after Russia invaded Ukraine. Pernod Ricard paused production there, then resumed exporting Absolut to Russia in April 2023. Swedish politicians called for a boycott, and a Finnish restaurant chain temporarily banned Pernod Ricard brands. The company said it had broken no rules and had complied with sanctions.
Stéphanie Durroux has led The Absolut Company since September 2020. In January 2026 Pernod Ricard restructured, and she now runs its clear-spirits and ready-to-drink unit, which includes Absolut.
We found nothing on fines or on its environmental record. With the Russia row weighing on one side and little proven good on the other, we score it a middling 5.
