Do we like Clayton Grimm?

Our score: 6 out of 10. Nothing nasty found and a clean run, but the record is thin enough that we can't say much more.

Clayton Grimm is the bloke in the blue-and-orange get-up on the kids' channel Blippi. He trained in theatre at New York University and worked with a nonprofit for kids, the 52nd Street Project, where he taught after-school chess and music. That is about as far from a scandal-sheet backstory as you get.

His route into the role was pure showbiz luck. In 2019 he won the part in the stage show Blippi the Musical after four auditions. When the pandemic ended the tour, he sent in an improvised fruit-salad video, got flown to Los Angeles, and was Blippi on YouTube about four months later.

The only real stoush around him was the 2021 casting change. Plenty of parents and kids were confused when a second Blippi turned up alongside creator Stevin John, with Grimm known as the other Blippi. That is a branding row, not a conduct one, and the reporting we read shows nothing against Grimm himself.

On the harm check we went looking for anything he has said or done about LGBTQ+ people, women, migrants, vaccines or the climate, and for who he works with. Nothing came up in the reliable sources. His work is children's TV for YouTube and Netflix, including Blippi's Job Show. An empty search isn't a glowing reference, so that's honestly the whole list.

He is a trained performer who sounds chuffed to have the job. He told Fox 11 it is the best job in the world and that he wakes up pinching himself. No court cases, no accusations and no tabloid rumours showed up. We found no big public causes of his own either, so the score stops at a solid middle-to-good.
