Do we like Chris Hemsworth?

Our score: 8 out of 10. No harmful words or company turned up, a big public bushfire donation, and one paid tourism ad that drew fair criticism.

Chris Hemsworth is the Aussie who turned a soapie start into the god of thunder, and he has spent the last few years trying to be more than the hammer. In a 2023 British GQ interview he said he wanted to do other stuff for a while, and admitted he got sick of the character pretty quick. That is honest for a bloke whose Marvel gig paid the mortgage.

He didn't just walk away, either. He told GQ he would come back as Thor only if it felt tonally different, and he has since kept making action films like the Extraction series. Extraction 3 began shooting on the NSW South Coast and in Sydney in July 2026, with a crew the state expects will mean about 450 local jobs.

Now for the harm check, which is the main reason you asked. We found no remarks from him about trans people, women or migrants, and no vaccine or climate-denial slide. The company he keeps looks clean too: the Extraction films are with the Russo brothers' AGBO, Idris Elba and Golshifteh Farahani, none of whom is tied to anything nasty in what we read.

The one mark is the Abu Dhabi tourism ad he made with his wife in November 2024. It was a minute-long promotion of the emirate as a family destination, and commenters questioned it given the UAE's record on women's rights, free speech and criminalising homosexuality, per Human Rights Watch. A rep was contacted for comment and no reply was reported, so that's a paid gig he'll have to wear.

There was also a stoush over his National Geographic series Limitless. Thunggutti elders criticised filming of a ritual at a sacred site, saying they weren't consulted. The production company Nutopia said it consulted extensively and had written consent from three local Aboriginal land councils, and some Indigenous groups backed the ritual, so it's a contested one, not a verdict.

On the good side, he and his family pledged $1 million to bushfire relief in January 2020, announced in the middle of the crisis. That's cash on the table when the country needed it, not just a hashtag.
