Do we like Yennefer of Vengerberg?
A character from The Witcher (1990s–present)
Our score: 7 out of 10. Prickly, vain and ruthless when crossed, but loyal, brave and fiercely protective of those she loves. We'd back her, from a safe distance.
Yennefer is a sorceress in Andrzej Sapkowski's Witcher saga, later adapted into the CD Projekt Red games and the Netflix series. She is known for her beauty, her sharp tongue and her enormous magical power. She was born with a physical disability and a lowly place in the world. She has spent her life determined never to be powerless again.
Her bond with the witcher Geralt is stormy. They are drawn together, they clash, and they keep returning to each other. She is proud, sarcastic and hard to please, and she holds grudges. She also has a deep streak of loyalty and a hidden longing for a family of her own.
We score her a 7. Her ambition and manipulation make her a difficult friend, but when it matters she puts herself on the line for the people she loves. Her flaws make her one of the more interesting figures in the saga.
