Do we like Wicked Witch of the West?
A character from The Wizard of Oz (1939)
Our score: 2 out of 10. No. She's a bully who threatens a lost little girl and her dog, and she sends flying monkeys after them over a pair of shoes. She is a great villain, but we wouldn't back her.
Dorothy Gale, a Kansas farm girl, is swept by a tornado to the Land of Oz. Her house lands on the Wicked Witch of the East, and Dorothy ends up with the dead witch's ruby slippers. The Wicked Witch of the West is the dead witch's sister, and she wants the slippers. She also wants revenge.
She is the film's main villain. She cackles, writes threats in the sky, and sends her winged monkeys and guards after Dorothy and her friends as they follow the Yellow Brick Road to the Wizard. She will hurt a child and a small dog to get what she wants, and she is unkind to the servants she rules over.
We give her 2 out of 10. She is one of the best-loved screen villains ever, and Margaret Hamilton's performance is much of the reason. She is also thoroughly nasty, and she has no redeeming side.
