Do we like Wario?
A character from Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (1992)
Our score: 4 out of 10. He's a selfish, grabby rascal, but he's more comic than cruel. We'd back him for a laugh and keep a hand on our wallets.
Wario first appears in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (1992) as the final boss. He's a jealous, Mario-like bruiser who has seized Mario's castle. His name blends "Mario" with the Japanese word for "bad".
He then got his own series. In Wario Land he's an anti-hero who hunts treasure, smashes through levels and fights pirates and other schemers. His motive is nearly always money, food or fame. The WarioWare games turn him into a game-maker who runs a company of oddballs and cashes in on microgames.
We score him a 4. He's no monster, and the games play him for laughs. But he's selfish, rude and rarely thinks of anyone else. He's fun company as long as you aren't the one he's after.
