Do we like WALL-E?
A character from WALL-E (2008)
Our score: 10 out of 10. Yes, wholeheartedly. He's kind, curious, loyal and endlessly hopeful, and he keeps caring when no one is watching.
WALL-E is a Waste Allocation Load Lifter: Earth-Class, a compactor robot left to clean up a deserted, trash-covered Earth centuries from now. He has outlasted the other robots like him. He spends his days stacking garbage into towers and his evenings in his home, with a pet cockroach for company and a battered video of a musical for entertainment.
He's curious and gentle. He collects odd keepsakes, from spoons to a little plant, and treats them with wonder. Almost without words, using only beeps and body language, the film makes him one of the most expressive characters Pixar has made.
His quiet routine is upended when a sleek probe robot called EVE arrives. He is smitten, and his devotion to her takes him far beyond his small corner of the world. He meets misfit machines and a very different kind of life along the way.
He gets a 10 because his goodness is constant. He is never cruel or selfish, and his small acts of care inspire the people and machines around him to be better. We'd follow him anywhere.
