Do we like Vegeta?

A character from Dragon Ball Z (1989)

Our score: 7 out of 10. A prickly, arrogant pain to be around, but his pride drives real growth and he fights hard when it matters. We'd back him, just not let him pick the group chat.

Vegeta is the Prince of all Saiyans, a proud warrior race. He's Goku's main rival and the first major villain of Dragon Ball Z. He arrives on Earth cold, arrogant and certain that no one can beat him.

His defining trait is pride. He is constantly trying to surpass his eternal rival Goku, and that struggle has made him one of the most powerful fighters in the universe. He is sarcastic, stubborn and hates losing. He also has a strict personal code and a competitive streak that can make him oddly funny and oddly admirable.

Our score reflects a character who starts out hard to like and slowly becomes easier to back. His early cruelty costs him points, and his ego never fully goes away. But his determination, his gruff loyalty and his willingness to put himself on the line when it counts win us over.

As the story goes on he stops being an enemy. He settles on Earth, builds a family with Bulma, and fights beside the heroes against threats even bigger than he is. Some of his biggest moments come from putting others ahead of his pride, though he never admits it.
