Do we like Vanellope von Schweetz?

A character from Wreck-It Ralph (2012)

Our score: 8 out of 10. Yes, we'd back her. She's cheeky and sometimes reckless, but she's loyal, brave and kind, and she keeps going after being shut out.

Vanellope lives in Sugar Rush, a sweet-filled arcade racing game. She is labeled a "glitch": she flickers and teleports, and the other racers bully her and keep her out of the race. She's lonely, sarcastic and fiercely determined to prove she's a real racer.

Her life changes when Ralph, the big-fisted villain of another arcade game, wanders into her world. Their friendship begins as a prickly bargain, with a lot of bickering and mischief. It grows into one of the film's emotional centers, and she is as much his rescuer as he is hers.

We score her high because she is funny, resilient and loyal. She's impulsive and rule-bending, and she's a bit of a brat at times, but her flaws read as a kid's defense against rejection. She is easy to root for.

Her glitch turns out to be tied to a secret about who she really is and to the game's ruler, King Candy. He is really Turbo, a villain from another game who took over Sugar Rush. Learning the truth lets her take her rightful place as a leader, and she chooses to keep her glitch as part of herself.
