Do we like Usopp?
A character from One Piece (1999–present)
Our score: 8 out of 10. Yes, we'd back him. He's a nervous, big-talking sniper who still turns up for his friends when it counts, and that makes his courage feel earned.
Usopp grows up in Syrup Village. His father left to become a pirate, and Usopp fills the gap with tall tales and a slingshot. He bills himself as the mighty Captain Usopp, who commands a huge army. In reality he leads three village kids. When Luffy's crew arrives, he gets to find out what kind of person he is when the danger is real.
He is the crew's coward, and he knows it. He's also one of the funniest and most human members of the Straw Hats. He has a gift for gadgets and tinkering, and his aim is as good as any sniper's on the Grand Line. His lies often start as nerves, and sometimes they end up cheering people on. His ideals are the weak point of a mostly comic character.
Our score comes from a simple pattern: he is afraid, and he shows up anyway. He makes real mistakes, and his pride can get the better of him. But he cares about his crewmates, he takes responsibility, and he keeps growing stronger. That makes him one of the easiest crew members to root for, and a lot of fans see themselves in him.
He goes through a serious falling-out with the crew over the Going Merry. He then returns in disguise as the masked hero Sogeking, and later makes up with them. He keeps growing after that, and he later earns the title "God" Usopp for his actions in Dressrosa.
